Citi may end point sharing on 5/6

Doctor of Credit is reporting that Citi will end point sharing on its ThankYou Rewards cards on 5/6/2026. DoC’s reporting references a reader who received a notification on their Citi ThankYou card statement on a former Sears Shop Your Way account.

Point sharing allows you to send up to 100,000 ThankYou points each year to any other person’s account with no fees. Shared points expire if they are not used within 90 days of the transfer.

Our quick take: Unnecessary devaluation

First off, I’m currently filing this under rumor, since I’ve heard this from third-party sources and not directly from Citi yet. But if this is true, this is a hit to families and friends who have their own individual accounts, but combine points for high-value travel redemptions.

The obvious reason for Citi wanting to cut a feature like this from ThankYou Rewards is to prevent people from selling their points to brokers. But the current 100,000 point/year restriction likely already accomplishes that. In my view, there’s little reason for Citi to roll this out across all of its cards.
