Best-Ever Chase Sapphire Reserve® sign-up bonus: 150,000 points

Chase is out with a limited-time bonus on the Sapphire Reserve that truly is the best-ever bonus on this card. (Yes, at least as far as the bonus is concerned, the reality matches the influencer hype at the moment.)

Here’s what you need to know about the current Sapphire Reserve welcome bonus.

Quick take: Best bonus ever…but the card isn’t that great anymore

The current Chase Sapphire Reserve welcome bonus is the best-ever bonus on this card. This even beats the welcome bonus offered at the card’s re-launch, which offered 100,000 points plus a $500 Chase Travel voucher.

But the card isn’t as good as it once was. While the sign-up bonus certainly makes the card worth it during the first year of card membership, Chase’s last refresh of the card

What used to be an easy-to-recommend travel credit card has become a coupon book that can be great for you if you:

  • Book travel through Chase and
  • Stay at a large number of high-end luxury properties (booked through Chase) and
  • Are willing to shift your spending to places that offer coupon-like statement credits and
  • Your points redemptions match up with Chase’s “points boost” special offers…

I could go on, but you get the point… that’s a lot of ifs. The point is that you really have to jump through a lot of hoops to get the value out of the Sapphire Reserve—today, having the card feels like more of a hassle than a premium travel card.

All that said, if you were thinking of picking up this card, now is the best time to get it, but the card certainly isn’t the slam-dunk best travel credit card that it once was.
