Changes to Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express: No more Equinox+ Credit

Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express

On June 13, 2024, Amex made some quiet changes to the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express. The card will lose its $10 monthly statement credit for Equinox+ membership at the end of October 2024.

This change isn’t likely to affect many cardmembers. I’d imagine that the Equinox+ membership wasn’t a widely-used benefit.

Elimination of the Equinox+ credit

On June 13, 2024, Amex quietly made changes to the terms of the $10 monthly Equinox+ credit offered on the Blue Cash Preferred® Card. The terms now show that October 31, 2024 is the last day to receive an Equinox+ credit and they mention that the last day to enroll in the Equinox+ credit benefit is August 15, 2024. This benefit is no longer advertised on the Amex website.

I have not been able to independently confirm whether new cardmembers can enroll in the benefit. But I suspect that new cardmembers can still enroll by August 15, 2024 and use this benefit through October 31, 2024.

My take on the changes to the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express

I don’t see the changes to the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express as being that big of a deal. Certainly if you were charging an Equinox+ monthly subscription to the card, this devaluation will hit you to the tune of $120 a year.

But I’d imagine most people are using the Blue Cash Preferred primarily because it is one of the best cards for groceries, has excellent rewards on gas, and includes a Disney+ streaming credit, not for Equinox+.
