My take on the cards with a Disney+ credit

If you subscribe to Disney+, you should have one of the cards on this list. Just having the no-annual fee Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express and charging your Disney+ subscription to the card will put $84 back in your wallet each year. But most families subscribing to Disney Plus will probably be better off with the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express.

Here’s why: Although the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express carries a $95 ongoing annual fee ($0 intro annual fee in the first year, then $95. See Rates and Fees), you’ll get enough value from the card to offset the annual fee.

If you’re paying for Disney+, you probably have kids. And if you have kids, you’re probably paying for a lot of groceries. You’ll more than make up for the annual fee on the Blue Cash Preferred® Card by getting 6% on the first $6,000 of purchases of groceries at U.S. supermarkets annually. Plus the card’s purchase protection can protect your purchases that are accidentally broken within the first 90 days after purchase. You’ll also get 3% cash back on purchases of gas at U.S. gas stations.

I personally hold the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express and use it as my go-to card for groceries and gas and get the full value out of the card’s Disney+ credit each year.

About each card’s Disney streaming credit

All of the cards on this page can get you a credit for your Disney Bundle or Disney+ subscription, but you can also use their credits for some other services owned by Disney. Here’s a bit of additional detail on what each card can cover.

Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express – $84 in annual credits for The Disney Bundle

The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express offers one of the easiest ways to get a statement credit for a Disney+ subscription. You can get a $7 monthly statement credit just for using your card to pay for a $9.99 or higher Disney Bundle subscription after enrollment. Although the credit is marketed as a “Disney Plus” credit, you can also use the card to pay for “any other monthly subscriptions or add-ons purchased at DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com, or plus.espn.com in the U.S.” This means that you can get a credit for any one of the following standalone services:

  • Disney+ – While the Disney Bundle provides the most potential value, a standalone Disney+ Premium subscription with ads at disneyplus.com costs just $13.99/month.
  • Hulu – A monthly subscription to Hulu without ads purchased at Hulu.com qualifies for this credit. Hulu without ads costs $17.99/month.
  • ESPN+ – Standalone ESPN+ subscriptions can be purchased from plus.espn.com.

Even better, you’ll get 6% cash back on your streaming services charged to the card, so it’s a great card to use for non-Disney/Hulu/ESPN streaming as well!

While the card carries an annual fee ($0 intro fee for the first year, then $95. See Rates and Fees) it offers 6% cash back on your first $6.000 of purchases at U.S. supermarkets each year, 3% on gas at U.S. gas stations and some useful benefits like extended warranty, purchase protection, and return protection.

The Platinum Card® from American Express – $240 digital entertainment credit, but a hefty annual fee

The Platinum Card® from American Express features a $240 annual ($20 monthly) digital entertainment credit that can be used for several streaming and digital content services, including Disney+, when you enroll in the benefit. A $20/month credit can cover the entire cost of many of these services. Here’s what’s included:

  • Disney+
  • The Disney Bundle
  • Hulu
  • The New York Times
  • Peacock
  • The Wall Street Journal

The digital entertainment credit doesn’t come close to covering the card’s massive $695 annual fee (See Rates and Fees), so you’ll have to find value in the card’s other benefits for getting this card to make sense. If you travel a few times a year, you can get value out of the card $200 airline fee credit, which can cover checked bags and airline incidental fees. Airport lounge access is another perk that you might enjoy. If you pay for Walmart+, you can get the full cost of a Walmart+ membership covered with the card’s Walmart+ credit.

For most people, the Disney+ credits on the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express or the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express make more sense.
