If your family subscribes to Disney+, using an American Express card that you can get with no annual fee, you can get up to an effective 70% discount on the base Disney+ Duo Basic subscription. The best part is that this discount is NOT just an introductory offer. This is an ongoing 70% discount on Disney+.

In this article, we’ll show you how this works.

Here’s what we cover in this article. Click on any link to jump to that section.

How it works: Using a credit card that offers a statement credit for Disney+

A small handful of credit cards offer statement credits for Disney+, giving you a generous Disney+ discount when you enroll in the benefit and charge your monthly Disney+ subscription to your card. Under current prices, you can pay an effective $2.99/month for a Disney+ subscription with Hulu after a $7 monthly credit.

These cards include the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express, available with no annual fee (See Rates and Fees) and the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, which offers cash back rewards that are likely to give you more value than the card’s annual fee.

Other, more expensive cards also offer a statement credit that you can use for Disney+. You can check out our guide to cards that offer statement credits for Disney+, but the two cards highlighted above are the ones that are best for most families.

Choosing an Amex card with a Disney Bundle statement credit

Two American Express cards will give you a monthly credit simply for charging your monthly Disney+ or The Disney Bundle subscription to your enrolled eligible card. Here’s how to decide which card is right for you.

If you want to get a card specifically for your Disney+ subscription, the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express offers an $84 Disney Bundle credit with no annual fee. (Enrollment required. Terms apply.) The card is also one of the best cards for groceries, the best cards for gas, and the best cards for shopping online. You can check out our overview of the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express for more details.

Another card that offers $84 in credits annually toward your Disney subscription is the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express. (Enrollment required, terms apply.) While the card has an annual fee (annual_fees, See Rates and Fees) you can earn plenty of cash back from the card. You’ll earn 6% cash back on up to $6,000 per year of groceries purchased at U.S. supermarkets, 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions, 3% back on transit, 3% at U.S. gas stations, and 1% on all other purchases.

Step-by-step: How to get a Disney+ discount

Getting a Disney+ discount with an Amex credit is relatively straightforward, but here’s our step-by-step walkthrough on how to get a card and use this benefit.

Step 1: Get a credit card that offers a Disney+ credit

To get a Disney+ discount through a credit card statement credit, you must have a credit card that offers a Disney+ statement credit. You can check out our continuously updated list of cards with Disney+ statement credits, but most people will want to choose one of the following two cards:

The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express offers a $7 monthly statement credit for Disney+ (enrollment required, terms apply) and gives you 3% cash back on a limited amount of spending each year in categories like U.S. supermarkets, U.S. online retail, and U.S. gas stations. The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express has no annual fee (See Rates and Fees).

The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express similarly offers a $7 monthly statement credit for Disney+ (enrollment required, terms apply) and gives you more cash back in several categories. You’ll get 6% cash back on up to $6,000 spent per year at U.S. supermarkets, and 1% thereafter, plus 6% rewards on select U.S. streaming subscriptions, 3% on gas at U.S. gas stations and on transit, and 1% on other purchases. You’ll also get a robust set of insurance protections that includes extended warranty, purchase protection, and return protection. The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express has a $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then an ongoing $95 annual fee. (See Rates and Fees)

For most families, the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express is going to be the better choice, despite its annual fee. If you use the card for $6,000 of spending at U.S. grocery stores each year (that equates to about $115 of groceries each week), you’ll get $360 of cash back rewards from this category alone.

You can also earn a welcome bonus with either card. Here are the details:

Step 2: Receive your card and enroll in the benefit

Once you receive and activate your card, you’ll need to enroll in your Disney Bundle credit benefit. Enrollment is a quick process, but it can be somewhat difficult to find how to enroll in your benefits. We’ve provided a quick step-by-step guide below with screenshots to make enrollment easier. Follow our guide below or call the customer service number on the back of your card for a walk-through.

Note that enrollment in the Disney Bundle credit is required. You will not receive a credit for The Disney Bundle if you do not enroll in the benefit.

How to enroll in an Amex benefit from AmericanExpress.com

You can enroll in benefits through the Amex account management portal at AmericanExpress.com. Here’s how to enroll through the website, step-by-step. Screenshots are from the desktop version of the website, but the mobile website works similarly.

First, log into your account at https://www.americanexpress.com/ using the username and password you use to manage your account. If you haven’t created an Amex online account, you’ll need to do that before enrolling in your benefit. You can create an Amex online account from a link found after you click “Log In” at the top of the page.

Next, you’ll select the card that has the benefit you want to enroll in from the panel in the upper right corner of the page. Clicking the card icon will show you all of the cards that are available in the Amex portal. Select the card with the benefit you want to enroll in from this list.

Next, use the menu at the top of the page to click on “Rewards & Benefits” and then choose “Benefits” from the secondary menu on the Rewards & Benefits page.

On this page, you may see a panel showing your progress toward earned benefits with some cards, but if you scroll down, you’ll see a section called “All Benefits.” Within the All Benefits section, you’ll find a number of tiles corresponding to available benefits on your card. Find the tile of the benefit you need to enroll in.

The benefit tile should show “Enrollment Required” and a button that says “Enroll Now.” Click “Enroll Now.” An example of a benefit tile offering enrollment is shown to the right.

On the next page, you’ll likely be giving the change to review terms and conditions of benefit. Some benefits may require you to provide additional information. Proceed through the screens you see until you get a confirmation of your enrollment. In most cases, you’ll also get email confirmation of your enrollment.

If you’re unsure of whether you’ve enrolled in a benefit, you can look under the Rewards and Benefits section of the Amex website or call the customer service number on the back of your card.

How to enroll in an Amex benefit from the Amex mobile app

Card Benefits screen of the Amex mobile app. Page shows several benefits, including two benefits that require enrollment. The Disney Bundle Credit benefit has already been enrolled and shows "Enrolled." The Equinox+ Credit benefit has not been enrolled and shows a button, "Enrollment Required."
Card benefits screen of the Amex mobile app

The Amex mobile app offers another (and in our view easier) way to enroll in your card’s benefits. Here’s how to enroll in your benefits from the mobile app.

Log into the Amex mobile app and select the card you want to enroll from the home screen. In the most current version of the app, you can swipe back and forth between cards to select your card. You can also select a card from the list by clicking the cards icon at the upper-left corner of the screen.

Next, click on the “Membership” button at the bottom of the screen. Under the Membership screen, you can scroll down to the section titled “Benefits.” Click “View All” under the benefits section to go to the benefits page.

On the benefits page (pictured to the right), you’ll see a list of benefits. Benefits that require enrollment will display either “Enrolled” or “Enrollment Required.” If you click on “Enrollment Required” you’ll get a chance to review benefit terms and conditions and enroll in the benefit. Once you successfully enroll in a benefit, you’ll see a confirmation in the app. Most of the time, you’ll also receive an email from Amex confirming your enrollment.

If you’re unsure of whether you’ve enrolled in a benefit, you can look for the “Enrolled” badge on a benefit in the mobile app or call the customer service number on the back of your card.

Step 3: Subscribe to Disney+

Once you’ve enrolled in your Disney Bundle credit benefit, you’ll need to subscribe to an eligible Disney bundle monthly subscription and charge it to your card. (Or change your existing subscription to your new card.) Keep the following in mind:

  • You must subscribe to a monthly subscription. The $84 credit for The Disney Bundle is issued as $7 monthly credits. If you purchase an annual subscription, you won’t qualify for monthly credits.
  • Your monthly subscription price must be $9.99 or higher. The lowest-priced Hulu only subscription plan costs less than this and would not qualify for the $7 monthly credit
  • You must purchase your subscription from Disneyplus.com, Hulu.com or Plus.espn.com. Purchases made from third-party websites won’t qualify for the credit.
  • You must use your enrolled card. If you haven’t enrolled in the benefit (see above) you won’t receive a statement credit.

Step 4: Enjoy your Disney+ credits

When you charge your Disney+ subscription to your enrolled card, you’ll automatically receive a statement credit. Amex says that you will receive a credit if an eligible purchase you receive within eight weeks from the date of your purchase. In practice, we’ve seen credits like this post within a few days of purchase.

If you have enrolled in the benefit and have charged an eligible Disney+ purchase on your card and you haven’t received a credit within 8 weeks, call the customer service number on the back of your card.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a way to get a discount on Disney Plus?

You can sometimes find introductory promotions that will give you a month or two of Disney+ for free, but you can get a discount month-after-month through bundling or through credit card statement credits. When you bundle your Disney subscription with subscriptions to Disney-owned properties like ESPN and Hulu, you can save. If you charge your monthly Disney+ subscription to a card like the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express or the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, you can get a monthly statement credit that reduces the effective price of the service. (Enrollment is required to get the statement credits.)

What is the cheapest way to get Disney+?

The cheapest way to get Disney+ on an ongoing basis is to pair the monthly Disney Bundle credit available on the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express or the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express with the $9.99/month Disney+ Duo Basic subscription. You’ll end up getting Disney+ for an effective price of $2.99/month (plus tax). Enrollment is required to get the credit.
