A few notes on applying for U.S. Bank credit cards

  • U.S. Bank does not limit the number of cards you can hold.
  • With most U.S. Bank credit cards, you can get the welcome bonus if you’ve had the card before.
  • U.S. Bank does not report small business cards to the consumer credit bureaus. This can be helpful if you are trying to stay under 5/24 for Chase applications.
  • You can check your application status by calling U.S. Bank at 1-800-947-1444.

Should you keep the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards® card after your first year?

With an ongoing annual fee of $95/year, you might be wondering whether it makes sense to keep the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards® card after the first year. We recommend keeping this card if you consistently get more in rewards from the card than you pay in your annual fee.

The cap on the card’s bonus categories make it very difficult to get enough marginal value from the rewards to justify the annual fee. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Amazon, Target, Walmart, and some other merchants offer cards that earn 5% cash back at their stores with no annual fee. If you’re planning on using this card at one of those merchants, you’ll only earn a marginal $60/year if you maximize your spending. Not enough to get the annual fee.
  • The marginal 1% you would earn in the 3% categories over a card that earns 2% everywhere ends up being a maximum of $60/year
  • You can easily get a card with no annual fee that offers unlimited 3% rewards at gas stations and on EV charging.
